Rugs are not a modern invention. Since the dawn of man we have striven to keep our dwellings warm by any means possible. Early cave dwellers managed to do this by using the hides of animals slung across walls and floors. Although we have evolved from living in caves, even in this modern age we still use this primitive method to keep our residences warm and clean.

The most natural and traditional rug you can buy is a sheepskin. These have been used for thousands of years as the first line of defence against dirt and cold. For those of you who crave natural items in your home, you really can’t go wrong with a sheepskin! The protective layer of the wool makes for a hardwearing and durable rug with natural waterproof properties, whilst there is no more comforting feeling underfoot than a snugly fleece.

If you are looking for a rug to complement your current decor, it is possible to buy sheepskins which have been dyed colours such as blue or even pink. These are great for adding a touch of fun to your surroundings and helping to create the atmosphere you are aiming for.

Should you be unable to reconcile yourself to purchasing an authentic sheepskin, they are available in a man- made version. These have the look of real sheepskin and are incredibly comfortable, yet mean you do not have to wrestle with your conscience over the comfort of your family.

So for fabulous comfort with a natural take, go for sheepskin every time!
