One of the most quintessentially British sights is a row of striped deckchairs, cloths billowing in the wind on a rain lashed beach whilst desperate mothers urge rain coated children to ‘just dig, dig!’. We long for that scene to be played out under the scorching sun but that is looking doubtful for this summer.
But if you yearn to bring a taste of the seaside into your house it is simple to do. Just add a brightly coloured striped rug to your floor and the scene is set! You can tailor the tones of the stripes depending on which room you use it in.
The obvious room for blue based stripes is the bathroom where this will add a nautical theme which is easy to expand on with the addition of cheap accessories. Items such as sea shells and pebbles can be used to fantastic effect in this scenario.
Use a design that features green and brown stripes for your hallway and it will seem as if you are inviting the natural outside world into your house. Add to this some large leafed houseplants, or even seaside grasses and the effect will be heightened.
Brightly coloured striped rugs reminiscent of those deckchairs will be brilliant placed in a conservatory or summer house. You could even increase the seaside effect by buying some deckchairs to use as furniture and adding buckets and spades as ornaments.
It is simple to bring the seaside into your house, and cheap rugs are the best way!
